It is a sacrament of healing, where we encounter God’s boundless mercy and receive the grace to restore our relationship with Him and the Church.

Why Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation?

Sin damages our relationship with God and others. Through Reconciliation, we acknowledge our sins, express sorrow, and receive absolution from a priest, who acts in the person of Christ. This sacrament brings spiritual renewal, strengthens our resolve to live a life of holiness, and grants us peace and joy through God’s forgiveness.

The Steps of Confession

Examination of Conscience – Reflect on your thoughts, words, and actions to recognize where you have fallen short of God’s will.

Contrition – Express true sorrow for your sins, with the desire to turn away from them.

Confession – Speak your sins aloud to the priest in the confessional, sincerely seeking God’s mercy.

Absolution – The priest prays the words of absolution, and through the power of Christ, your sins are forgiven.

Penance – Perform the act of penance given by the priest as a sign of your repentance and commitment to change.

Who Can Receive This Sacrament?

All baptized Catholics who have reached the age of reason (typically around seven years old) are encouraged to receive this sacrament regularly. The Church requires that Catholics confess serious sins at least once a year, but frequent confession is beneficial for spiritual growth and strength against temptation.

When and Where Can You Go to Confession?

Our parish offers regular opportunities for Confession. Please check the Mass & Sacraments page for scheduled times or contact the parish office to arrange an appointment with a priest. Many parishes also hold special Penance services during Advent and Lent.

A Gift of God’s Mercy

Jesus invites us to experience His mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. No sin is too great for God’s forgiveness, and through this sacrament, He offers us the grace to begin anew. Embrace this opportunity to draw closer to God, renew your heart, and live in the freedom of His love.

If you have any questions about Confession or need guidance in preparing, please reach out to our parish clergy.
